Summertime and the Reading is Easy
Happy summer!!
It’s the longest day of the year.
Summer means beaches and barbeques and vacations and staycations.
And books. Lots of books. At least for me anyway.
There’s nothing like relaxing with a good book. If you missed yesterday’s post, I talked about how I found my writing voice. I also talked about a list of 100 thrillers that I am going to read to really study the genre.
So to kick off my summer reading, I’ll be reading these books, which have all been best-sellers and are guaranteed page turners.
Up first is James Patterson. These are the first two books in his Alex Cross series. I bought these two books at a garage sale for fifty cents a piece. I’ve seen his name so much I grabbed these because the titles caught my eye. Little did I know they would be on that list!
James Patterson holds the Guinness World Record for the most #1 New York Times bestsellers. With a record like that, it’s easy to see why he made the list of top 100 thrillers.
This one didn’t make the list, but it was another yard sale find that caught my eye. Anything by Stephen King is a thriller, so I’m choosing this one. It, as well as quite a few other of his books are on the list. I do have It on my bookshelf. But the character who gets kidnapped by Pennywise is named Audra.
Yeah.
So you can see why I’m having trouble picking that one up.
Another book that made the list is The Alienist. I’ve heard so much about this book, so naturally when I found it at a yard sale I bought it. It was only fifty cents (that seems to be the going rate at yard sales.)
This book spent six months on the New York Times Bestseller list and has sold millions of copies. The reviews say it’s fast-paced and riveting. We shall see!
Ahh, Rebecca. Another book I’ve heard so much about. I didn’t get this one at a yard sale *gasp*. I got it at a used bookstore for a dollar. 🙂
This book is about a lady’s maid who can’t believe her luck when she’s swept off her feet by a very charming widower named Maxim de Winter. But when she arrives at his country estate, the ghost of his late wife tries to destroy their marriage.
Yeah. That.
I was a little surprised to see this book make the thriller list. I’ve seen the movie a thousand times (I know, I saw the movie first…bad reader!). But I’m still going to read the book because books are almost always better than the movie (although I really liked that movie).
